“Stories, like people and butterflies and songbirds’ eggs and human hearts and dreams, are also fragile things, made up of nothing stronger or more lasting than twenty-six letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Or they are words on the air, composed of sounds and ideas – abstract, invisible, gone once they’ve been spoken – and what could be more frail than that? But some stories, small, simple ones about setting out on adventures or people doing wonders, tales of miracles and monsters, have outlasted all the people who told them, and some of them have outlasted the lands in which they were created.”

heartbreakingly beautiful, delicately masterful, a fearless visionary, his soul touched me. it was as if he were not truly made for this world, and yet loved it enough to upturn, examine, and challenge every part of it. thank you.

dree hemingway — ballerina-turned-model-of-the-moment, my current style inspiration, and the beautiful great-granddaughter of legendary writer ernest hemingway. like her great-grandfather’s writing, dree’s style is characterized by economy and understatement. the latter, in spite of what one may think initially, has a power far beyond the present. it stays with you, and resurfaces at unexpected moments, long after it has made its first impression.
the outfit i’m wearing today was inspired by the denim and leather combination she wears in the second photo, a look i briefly toyed with after the givenchy ss09 rtw collection came out. denim shirt, black leather jacket, black tights, and studded boots. i think this is going to rapidly grow into a uniform of sort.
now i need her giles deacon ss2010 sunglasses and those sky-high wedges and i’ll be set for the year.
